Heartwarming Moments with Caremark Therapy Dogs at St Martins Care
Every two weeks, St Martins Care is graced by the presence of the Caremark Therapy Dogs, and the excitement amongst our residents is indescribable. Caremark has four registered dogs and each visit is a delightful surprise as to which dogs will visit, so residents and staff eagerly await the canine companions that will brighten their day.
The importance of our furry friends
Research has shown that petting and interacting with animals releases endorphins, leading to relaxation of the mind and body. The presence of these dogs in our care homes is a source of comfort, happiness, laughter, and joy for all. However, the impact is especially significant for residents in our Memory Care Unit.
During her visits, Kelly from Caremark generously dedicates time to both our residential and Memory Care floors. She engages with residents, offering them not only companionship with the dogs, but also stimulating conversations and sensory therapy sessions for those who wish to participate.
During Caremark’s most recent visit, the star of the show was Wilma, a charming chocolate brown cockerpoo, dressed in her finest attire. Wilma is in training and from the moment she arrived, she made an unforgettable impression on everyone - residents, families, and staff alike.
Chance and Red are the two Labradors who also graced St Martins Care with their presence, and brought an abundance of joy, smiles, and cherished memories to the residents and staff.
These visits are more than just delightful encounters; they trigger precious memories and lead to heartwarming conversations. Take our resident, Ken, for example, an avid dog lover with a history of owning Labradors. His smile lights up the room during each Caremark visit, reminiscing about his own furry friends. Then there's Pauline, who, though nursed in bed, finds great joy in having the dogs sit on her bed, and Janet simply adores these wonderful dogs, often exclaiming how beautiful they are.
A thank you…
St Martins Care would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Kelly and her wonderful dogs for their invaluable visits. The well-trained dogs display remarkable behaviour and adaptability, welcoming various sounds, and smells, and the countless loving hands that reach out to pet them within our care homes.
The Caremark Therapy Dogs have become more than just occasional visitors; they are cherished members of the St Martins Care family. Their visits not only provide moments of respite and happiness but also create lasting memories and foster connections among residents, staff, and these lovable companions. St Martins Care looks forward to the next heartwarming visit, knowing that it will be filled with wagging tails!
