Gwen was born in Grangetown and lived with her mum, dad and 5 sisters. Gwen would help her mum with chores around the busy home. Gwen attended St William Worsley County Modern School and passed her 11+ . On a weekend and after school Gwen worked in a fruit shop. Once leaving school this became her full time job. When Gwen was 19 she married local lad Kevin Keenan and had 3 children ,1 son and 2 girls . Gwen had her hands full cooking, cleaning ,making sure the house was “spick and span” . Gwen and Kevin moved to Guisborough as the children were growing up and Gwen worked in various jobs eventually settling at the Electricity Board where she stayed for 23 years . After leaving Gwen opened a charity shop and spent her time, helping the community get their bargains . Gwen stated “I have always worked and I like to keep busy, it keeps me active and I like to help. I have had a lovely life and can look back at all the memories I have”
