Walking Together: A Sponsored Walk for a Welcoming Sensory Experience
Last weekend St Martins Care’s dedicated team of caregivers volunteered in their own time and joined together with a shared vision – to create a haven of joy for their cherished residents through a new and improved sensory garden.
The journey towards this goal involved a sponsored walk, which blended our love for the outdoors with a passionate commitment to enhancing the lives of our residents.
The funds raised from this event will be directed towards the Residents' Fund, which plays a pivotal role in the activities and support of the ongoing sensory garden renovations. The sensory haven will develop into a place of sanctuary for the residents, where they may find comfort, use their senses, and savour the small pleasures of life.
Hearts and feet in sync
This sponsored walk was not just about raising funds; it was about bringing people together, particularly the dedicated staff members who care for our residents day in and day out. Alishia, Beth, Maria, Aaron, and Keren were all involved and housekeeper Jill was taxi and designated driver for the day.
A scenic trek through Yorkshire's beauty
The setting for our sponsored walk was as picturesque as it gets. We kicked off the journey at the iconic Captain Cook's Monument on Easby Moor at 10 am. From there, the route took the team to Roseberry Topping, fondly known as the ‘Yorkshire Matterhorn’. As they climbed and conquered this magnificent peak, the walkers were treated to panoramic views, and the journey then continued to Highcliff Nab. Our walkers even braved all four seasons of weather! However, perhaps their talents may be better suited to caring for our residents rather than navigating maps, considering they made two incorrect turns, resulting in the need to climb two extra hills! Finally, they descend into the charming town of Guisborough, completing a roughly 10-mile walk. Along the way, there were three distinct points of interest offering stunning views of the Cleveland Way and Yorkshire.
The power of sponsorship
While the caregivers took on the challenge of the walk, they aren't alone in their mission. Every pound donated is a step towards creating that welcoming sensory experience for our residents. There is still time to sponsor us, the deadline is October 4th!
Thank you!
